Ursa major Photos – License unique travel photos ❘ lookphotos
13998752 - Auroral curtains converging overhead, with the Big Dipper and Ursa Major at centre. This was February 25,2023 from the observing deck at the Churchill Northern Studies Centre,Churchill,Manitoba.
13899539 - The Big Dipper and Ursa Major over moonlit formations at Dinosaur Provincial Park, Alberta. Illumination is from the waxing gibbous Moon, setting in the southwest so it is providing a warm "bronze-hour" light.
13998938 - This is a framing of the bright Messier spiral galaxy M101,with a number of its nearby galaxies in Ursa Major. The odd galaxy below M101 ins NGC 5474. NGC 5473,5485 and 5486 are above M101. an edge-on at top centre is NGC 5422,while at the top edge is NGC 5443. The elongated galaxy above the blue star 86 UMa at right is 13th magnitude UGC 8337.
13898812 - Comet NEOWISE (C/2020 F3) over the still waters this night of Crawling Lake in southern Alberta. This was early in the evening with the sky still brightly coloured with twilight. The comet was in the southern part of Ursa Major between the pairs of stars called Tania and Talitha. The clouds that were present nicely framed the scene and reflected in the water as well. The comet was too high to be visible as a reflection at this time.
13898308 - The stars of Ursa Major, the Great Bear, over the waters of Peyto Lake, Banff, in deep twilight. Arcturus in Böotes, the Bear Driver, is setting over the peak at left. Ursa Major contains the seven stars that make up the Big Dipper, aka the Plough or the Wagon. This was October 13, 2022 on a very clear night in the Rocky Mountains.
13897627 - Aurora reflected in the calm waters of Frame Lake this evening and arching over the Prince of Wales Museum in Yellowknife, NWT, on Sept 5, 2019. The Museum exterior is lit by rippling coloured LED lights that mimic the aurora. The Big Dipper and Ursa Major are above the aurora. The arc of the Lights was brighter earlier on this evening but had faded by the time I got set, but came back somewhat, as I shot here. I shot this from Somba K’e Park.
13999481 - A fine showing of auroral curtains in the northeastern sky, with the Big Dipper and Ursa Major at upper left, with the sky and ground also illumimnated by the light of the waxing crescent Moon. This was February 25,2023 from the observing deck at the Churchill Northern Studies Centre,Churchill,Manitoba.
13897533 - Messier 101, the Pinwheel Galaxy in Ursa Major, a classic face-on spiral galaxy, large and obvious in binoculars. The odd galaxy at bottom is NGC 5474.
13999655 - A fine showing of auroral curtains in the northeastern sky, with the Big Dipper and Ursa Major at upper left, with the sky and ground also illumimnated by the light of the waxing crescent Moon. This was February 25,2023 from the observing deck at the Churchill Northern Studies Centre,Churchill,Manitoba.
13899054 - A panorama of Lake Edith in Jasper National Park, Alberta, on a calm autumn night, looking north to the stars of Ursa Major, the Great Bear, and the Big Dipper in deep twilight. Arcturus is at far left setting in the northwest over Pyramid Mountain, while Capella in Auriga and the stars of Perseus are rising at right in the northeast. This was on a mid-October night when the Big Dipper rides low in the northern sky from this latitude of 53° N.
13898535 - The constellation of Ursa Major, the Great Bear, and the asterism of the Big Dipper low in the north over Lake Edith in Jasper National Park, on a clear autumn night. Arcturus is at left setting over Pyramid Mountain.
13898436 - An arc of a Kp-5 aurora over a wheatfield from home in southern Alberta. The panorama takes in the northern stars, from the Big Dipper and Ursa Major at left, to the W of Cassiopeia at top right of centre, with Perseus below Cassiopeia, and Andromeda and Pegasus at right. Moonlight from the waxing gibbous Moon low in the southwest illuminates the scene. Jupiter is rising at far right low in the southeast. This was taken when the display was at its most active. An hour later as it was fading STEVE appeared in a fabulous show.
13999227 - A fine showing of auroral curtains in the northeastern sky, with the Big Dipper and Ursa Major at upper left, with the sky and ground also illumimnated by the light of the waxing crescent Moon. This was February 25,2023 from the observing deck at the Churchill Northern Studies Centre,Churchill,Manitoba.
13998767 - A colourful aurora in the deep blue of twilight on Febrary 26,2023 on a Kp6 storm night. From the Churchill Northern Studies Centre. The Big Dipper and Ursa Major are at upper centre. Leo is rising at right. The landscape is lit by the waxing quarter Moon.
13900148 - A panorama of the northern stars in autumn over and reflected in the calm waters of Lake Edith in Jasper National Park, in the deep twilight. The Big Dipper and Ursa Major are at left, with Arcturus over Pyramid Mountain at far left. Capella is rising at right, and above it are the stars of Perseus and Cassiopeia. This was on a very clear mid-October night in 2022.
13898077 - Messier 81 (the spiral galaxy below) and M82 (the irregular galaxy on top) in Ursa Major. M81 is Bode’s Galaxy, while M82 is the Cigar Galaxy. The galaxy at bottom left is NGC 3077 This is a stack of 10 x 10-minute exposures with the Canon EOS Ra camera at ISO 800 through the Astro-Physics 130mm apo refractor at f/6 with the 6x7 field flattener lens. Taken April 24/25, 2020. North is up in this view.
